Welcome to a Japanese Mythology Analysis
By Brandi Cook
Abstract
My Research and Mission
Chronological analysis of Japanese mythology reveals a correlation between mythology and the evolving roles of women in Japan. From ancient, foundational myths dating back to the Yayoi period to the Edo period's adherence to traditional norms. Post-World War II era, there is a large shift in stories that revolve around the idea of citizenship (“shimin”). The interpretation of mythological tales reflect a complex relationship between mythology and the lived experiences of women in Japan throughout time. Within my research, I'm going to evaluate the evolution of the portrayal of women within mythology, and how Japanese mythology reflected real world problems.
